Turds win derby on a bad day for FC Irlande Sticky

Nov
20

First lost 3-0 against top of the league Portugal. Individual mistakes were punished and the team could not respond.

Seconds lost 5-1 in a very physical encounter to third placed Iris United. A makeshift Seconds team came up against a very young and technical Iris team. Captain Sparks' post game remark 'it was pretty shit' sums it up.

Turds had the only victory of the day. (hopefully followed by the second ladies team this morning) They won 2-0 away to the Brits, who were sitting top of the league with 9 wins and a draw at the start of the match. Half time 0-0, it was a very good match, close, competitive. We held them off against the wind and created a few chances of our own too. They took Paddy W out after 15 mins, hamstring gone, ref didn't even call the foul, was raging but channelled it towards encouraging the team! 2 mins into the second half Rodrigo finished coolly to give us the lead. The Brits were shook and we continued to push. Our midfield didn't give them a second on the ball and kept disrupting their game while defence stayed solid. We won a free kick outside the left of the box which Stefan stepped up to and slotted it low around the wall into the bottom right corner. 2-0! We held them until the end and started the celebrations. The best tastes of victory! Motm went to the team (and Rodrigo)

Fourths game was postponed.

Vets 1 lost 4-1 but the was tighter than the score suggests. Vets keep looking for their first 3-pointer.

Vets 2 lost 3-1. No further details available.

Ladies I had a forfeit today.

Ladies play Sunday morning.

Nick hits 6 !!! Home games 12/11/16 Sticky

Nov
12

Almost a perfect day for our non-Vets teams, with only a last-minute equalizer from LXG preventing us from getting 6 wins from 6.

The equalizer came for LXG against the firsts, and cancelled out Ross's goal to give them a 1-1 draw. We stay joint 3rd, but now 5 points behind the co-leaders, RBB and Portugal. Well in it still, especially with a big game against Portugal next week ...

The seconds won 7-0 against 5th place String Penelope. We maintain a one-point lead at the top, but these two are now 5 clear of the third place group. Nick scored 6 (six !!!) of the goals, and gave the assist for the other one. In a fantasy team, as captain, that would be worth 64 points (assuming he'd get the 3 bonus points ...) unless he was classed as a midfielder, in which case it'd be 78 !!

3rds won 4-1. Hard fought but deserved it. The other team spent the whole game complaining to the ref. If they actually focused on playing football they'd be a good team, their goal was nice, cut us apart with a few passes. We were 1-0 up at half time, more or less in control, they equalised a minute into the second half, but we got one back soon after and then they lose the plot completely. We kept our cool, most of us anyway, and closed the game out in the last ten mins with two more from Ionut. Bruno and Piet got the first two. Good team performance. Bruno motm.

The fourths also got a nice 2-0 win - and it sounds closer than it was - for the last 15-20 minutes, we were attacking and should probably have scored more.

Vets 1 lost 1-5, playing with only a few of what would normally be their preferred starting 11. Remarkably, with our one point, we are actually still above the relegation places, albeit only on the basis of goals scored (despite the absence of Stevie).

Vets 2 played extremely well despite having lost a couple of our best players to Vets 2. We created (I counted) 431 chances. But they just wouldn't go it. The opposition created one chance, on a breakaway towards the end, and scored twice - their first goal, early in the 2nd half, coming from an attempted cross that fluked into the net. Admittedly there were also two phenomenal last-ditch tackles/blocks from Laurent and Al which prevented certain goals... but these were in the phase where we were chasing the game...

Ladies teams both won yesterday evening, but their games finished after the men's bedtime, so we haven't heard any details of those yet ...

To complete a fairly good day for the Irish, Ireland beat Austria 0-1 away in the World Cup qualifiers and now top our group!

1sts and 2nds get important victories in mixed day for our teams (5/11/2016) Sticky

Nov
05

1sts were involved in a tough match against Entracb . We took the lead through Andrea (scoring his fifth goal in 3 games) and were looking good to build on the lead but were stopped in our tracks when a penalty was given and we were pulled back to 1-1. The second half was a tight affair and we had many chances to take the lead but couldn't take them . A second penalty was awarded against us and this time MOM Darragh pulled off a great save to keep the scores level. Finally we got the breakthrough when Ross finished off a good move to put us ahead 2 1 and this was the final score to keep us in the top 4

2nds ,top of their division faced Azur who almost always have proved a very tricky opponent. So it proved in a difficult first half as they opened the scoring with a long range shot to make it 1  0 .at the break. Whatever Captain Sparksy said at half time should be bottled as we came sharply out of the blocks and put away 2 goals in the first 5 minutes to take the lead. Game was well contested and we eased the pressure by adding a third to run out 3 1 winners.

3rds lost 1 0. Hard match against a top team we had a lot of opportunities but we lost the match on a mistake

4ths also lost by 4 goals to 1 . No excuses were beaten by a better team

Vets 1 were involved in a relegation battle against Trinquant and were hoping for at least a draw but gave away 2 soft goals in the 1st half to go in 2 0 down at the break, Despite the opposition having 2 guys sent off we were unable to claw back any goals and the game ended 2 - 0 which puts us in trouble at the bottom of the table.

Vets 2 were hoping to return to winning ways after some recent disappointing results but it was 0 0 at the break. In  the 2nd half Dave and Joergen came on and we  started to mount some attacks but it was the oipposition who took the lead and we then mounted a spirited fightback to get back in the game. After going close a couple of times we equalised when a free kick from Bart was flicked on by Dave and Oscar finished to bring us level. About 10 minutes later Luuk made a great run from midfield and passed to Dave who put it away in the corner to put us ahead. With the opposition tiring we held out and the final score was 2 1.

Ladies 1 played against Str Gooik who they had lost to in the cup on Tuesday .  We were behind at half time by 2 1 but came fighting back in the 2nd half to claim a draw 3 3. Goals by Paola Virginie and Stefanie. Great team spirit.

1sts in great win to get back amongst the top 4 (29/10/2016) Sticky

Oct
29

1sts after a lean spell recently came back with a bang by beating Tourinnois 4 - 0 away. An own goal,1 from skipper and leading scorer Ross and another double in successive weeks from Andrea secured the points. A good voctory that sets us up well for the next few games.

2nds lost their unbeaten record by going down 2 -1 to Pumas. No more information . 3rds also lost by 2-1 away to Basilique. Poor match very scrappy play overall. We actually went 1 0 up through Sergiu with a nice lob but they got 2 well taken goals in the 2nd half and held on despite some good chances for us. MOM Sergiu and Mario

4ths had the early slot with an 11 am  KO, They showed they were wide awake by gaining a great victory against one of the top sides. They took the lead on 2 occasions from corners bur we equalised both times and then we scored the winner in the dying minutes from Costi.

Vets 1 were severely depleted with more than half the team absent and had a fixture against Forestois one of the top sides and last year's champions. We started brightly and it was not until about the 15th minute that they managed to score their first goal but from then on they dominated the game and were 5 0 up at half time. Second half they continued to dominate the game and added 5 more goals to make it a double digit win.

Vets 2 had to forfeit due to insufficiant numbers and Ladies 2 also had their match cancelled as the opposition could not field a team.

Ladies 1 won 2 0 after scoring both goals in the 1st half through Geani and Celine,. We dominated the game with the opposition not having any real chances.  A very good performance which will put us back in mid table
