Match Report:
FC Irlande Ladies 1 VS
Sporting Du Pays de Charleroi
A large crowd gathered at the Auderghem pitch this past Saturday evening, creating a high-stakes atmosphere for what promised to be a classic rivalry. With both sides looking focused and hungry for the three points, the stage was set for a physical and tactical encounter.
FCI enjoyed the rare luxury of a full bench, which proved vital as the game wore on. In the second half, the introduction of Florence and Okyara injected fresh energy into the side. Florence nearly broke the deadlock after a strong run left her one-on-one with the Charleroi keeper; however, the keeper’s quick positioning narrowed the angle, making it impossible for the FCI forward to find the back of the net.
Charleroi’s energetic squad tried to unsettle the FCI backline by constantly rotating positions during their attacking phases, forcing our midfield and defenders to stay disciplined and communicative throughout the 90 minutes.
The girls fought hard to maintain the clean sheet, particularly when a lost ball in defense gifted the Charleroi striker a clear opportunity. Olatz remained composed, making an important save to deny the visitors and keep FCI in the game.
As the clock ticked toward the final whistle, there was one last moment of drama. Momo stepped up to take a free kick, showcasing her trademark technique. She struck the ball beautifully, only to see it beat the keeper and strike the upper bar. While the breakthrough didn’t come, it was a solid performance that showcased the team’s quality and resilience. A hard-fought match from the Ladies 1, who take a well-earned point into the next fixture.
