With champagne still soaking in the turf and pink smoke still lingering in the air from the flares of the previous game, Ladies 2 took to the field of the home arena with a determination to finish the season with bang against WS Woluwe.
Despite the opponent taking an early lead with a lucky bounce off the right side of the goal post, Ladies 2 pressed on and created several dangerous opportunities which drew audible gasps from the crowd (gasps which were dangerous for the onlookers, as the air was thick with flies). While a goal for FCI was looming in the air for the better part of the first half and the defence was working hard to intercept counter-attacks, the opponent continued to take advantage of every chance they got in front of our goal.
FCI did not let this break down morale, and words of encouragement such as “let’s go for every ball like it’s the last ball!” and “come on, let’s do this!” were heard from inside the circle of players at half-time. Sustaining not one, but two head injuries in the process, Ladies 2 put up a good fight until the very end, creating chances by building up attacks, from corners, and from free kicks, and earning their well-deserved break until the preparations for next season.
On this sunny Saturday FC Ireland Ladies 2 met against White Star.
