FC Irlande Men’s 1 were back in action this afternoon at our familiar Nossegem ground, although this time we were the away side, taking on league champions Azur.

With a strong wind behind us in the first half, there were some early signs of promise. We came close to opening the scoring when a deflected Alvaro corner clipped the underside of the bar, but the breakthrough had to wait until the stroke of halftime. Vincent whipped in an inviting cross and Erik was on hand to get on the end of it and make it 1-0 going into the break.

Straight after the restart, with the wind now against us, Erik popped up again for his second of the afternoon. A huge goal that really set the tone for the second half.

We kept pushing and were rewarded with a third when Vince intercepted a wayward pass, rounded the keeper nicely and calmly finished to make it 3-0.

From start to finish, it was a proper team effort. To a man, we showed great desire, worked for each other and made sure we got the job done.

Next up is Higgins Pumas, back in Nossegem next Saturday, where we’ll be looking to build on this good run of form.
