Match Report:
Result: Fourths 2 – 1 Virginal
The Fourths returned to action at home in Nossegem with a strong performance and their first victory of the season against Virginal. From the very beginning, the atmosphere was positive, the team warmed up well, and the players were highly motivated to get back on track.
First Half
The match started under our control, with solid possession and good movement across the field. Unfortunately, after just five minutes, Benedetto had to leave the pitch due to an injury, with Ben V coming on as a substitute. Despite the early setback, the team maintained dominance, creating several opportunities.
The first major chance came from a corner when Benoit was close to scoring with a header. The breakthrough finally arrived when Alberto made a brilliant run, beating the defender and finishing calmly to score the first goal of the season for the Fourths.
The second goal followed soon after: a defensive mistake from Virginal allowed Alberto to pounce like a true striker, chasing down the loose ball and firing home for his brace. We went into halftime with a 2-0 lead and a confident performance.
Second Half
After the break, Ben V was substituted for Alex, making his debut after returning to Brussels. Andrea moved out to the wing as the team looked to maintain control.
However, Virginal began to grow into the game, pushing higher and creating more pressure. In a moment of individual skill, one of their players dribbled past two defenders and unleashed a long-range strike that Matteo couldn’t keep out, reducing the score to 2-1.
As the game wore on, injuries disrupted our rhythm: Iacopo and later Leo had to leave the pitch, forcing Roman and Alex to fill in. With tired legs in midfield, we dropped deeper and struggled to maintain the same intensity. Virginal pressed hard until the final whistle, but the Fourths held on to secure all three points.
Final Thoughts
It wasn’t the smoothest ending to the match, but the team showed determination to earn the first win of the season. Alberto’s brace and a strong first-half performance made the difference, giving the Fourths a much-needed boost of confidence moving forward.
